Photo Essay: the Mexicolours of Playa del Carmen

playa del carmen

A recent trip to Playa del Carmen in Mexico’s Riviera Maya on the east coast consisted of one too many Dos Equis, more guacamole than I care to think about, and pure sunshine and happiness.

I first visited Playa del Carmen in 2016 on a trip to visit my uncle in Cancun, and I fell in love with Mexico. I was relaxing there for 2.5 weeks after a cold ski season in Canada, and I’m ashamed to say I didn’t actually travel much. Although I didn’t see much, it didn’t stop me from falling in love with the country.

This time round, I visited with my family for my Mum’s 60th birthday surprise and time spent exploring Playa del Carmen reminded me why I love Mexico so much. It’s the perfect mix of Mayan history, sun-kissed beach clubs, incredible food and some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. The best part for me though is the amazing colours you’ll find splashed across every wall and every shop front. It just screams happy.

So here’s a few photos that will hopefully make you smile…
